Here’s a quick game that only took a few minutes to prep and was surprisingly fun to play. I wanted to give my Little Darlings more exposure to the 1st person as we reviewed the Pura Vida music video by Don Omar, a clip chat I’ve been working in Spanish 2, and this game is the result. (If you’re interested in the full Pura Vida unit, here it is!)

To Prep:

Using Flippity’s Flashcards, I created a deck that we would use for a whole class game. Side One of each card looks like this:

Every Side One says the same “¿Quién lo dice?” Followed by two characters from the clip chat.

On Side Two, there’s a a quote from one of the characters listed on the other side. Note: these are not direct quotes from the video, just what I imagine they would say, if they were speaking slowly and carefully so that my Spanish 2 Little Darlings could understand them.

To Play:

Students partner up and play Rock, Paper, Scissors. The winner gets to choose a character first. When I show a card that says “¿Quién lo dice?”, the winner makes their guess of WHO will say the quote on the back side of the card. This is 100% a guessing game. There’s no strategy involved.

Then I reveal the other side of the card, checking comprehension if there’s confusion. If the student choose correctly, they earn a point. If they choose incorrectly, their partner gets the point. Both students keep track of their points on their fingers and show me the score each round. Then I reveal the next ¿Quién lo dice? Card and the other student (the one that did not guess last round) makes their guess and the game continues.

Super simple and more fun than I was expecting. Want to see it in action? Here are the last few minutes of the game, after they’d gotten the hang of it and started getting very competitive.

PS: in the video, you’ll hear them referring to Cupcake, this particular class’s name for “el otro entrenador“.

One last time…

If you haven’t heard, Kara Jacobs and I are planning another teacher trip this summer, back to Segovia July 1-10, 2027… Care to join us! Here are all the details!
